Itty Bitty Bra - Wire-Free ConvertibleOne of the top brands for petite lingerie in the United States, Itty Bitty Bra, has come out with a new convertible model. This is great news for those of us who struggle with slipping straps.

The IBB convertible strap bra is a wire-free style with triangle-shaped contoured cups and a narrow band. It closes in back with a single row of hooks (like the classic Itty Bitty Signature Bra). The straps are detachable and can be worn cross-back, halter-style or classic.

The description of this bra on the IBB website does not mention the fact that it is a wire-free style. I would have preferred an underwire, because with the narrow band and only one row of hooks in back, there isn’t much support.

If you’re between band sizes, definitely order the smaller size — otherwise it will ride up (a common problem with wire-free bras). Sizes come in Extra Small (32), Small (34), Medium (36), and Large (38). Cup sizes are all AA/A; I would not recommend this bra for B cups.

I tried on the Itty Bitty convertible strap bra in two sizes: XS and S. On me, the best fit in the band was definitely the XS — but it was too small in the cups.

The size S fit better in the cups, but the band was very loose. I will probably go with the size S, but I’ll have to alter it by adding another hook to the band so it will fit tighter.

A major plus: the straps are long enough to wear them crossed in back. This is not IBB’s most flattering bra, but it is certainly comfortable. The smooth, lightly padded cups work well under t-shirts.

  1. I’m glad they’re introducing some none-wired bras. I almost always end up cutting the wire out of mine for comfort. It doesn’t tend to affect the structure of the bra very much (and in some cases has improved it).

I just recently found some Calvin Klein girls’ bras that fit like petites. They’re convertible with flexible underwire and the cups aren’t narrow like most children’s bras. They go by their own size chart, so a 32A for them is more like a 32AA or 32AAA (the cup fits me perfectly at 30A, band is a little big). Since I typically hate underwire, I’m always a little reluctant to throw down a lot of money on proper petite bras, and I’ve found that these are a pretty affordable and well-made alternative. http://www.calvinklein.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3897765

  2. Thanks Lin! I’ve tried these bras and I agree, they’re a very good value.

The one thing I don’t like about the CK girls’ bras is that the straps are too short on me — but I have one of these in a 32B that I wear with a different set of straps that I borrowed from a Wacoal Petites convertible strapless. It’s a basic, simple style with no padding or other fanciness.

Definitely go up a cup size if you’ve never tried these. As Lin said, they run small and the A cup will fit size AAA-AA.
