Bikini top by Seafolly

Seafolly Festival Sliding Triangle Top

I just got this bikini top by Seafolly and it fits me perfectly. No sagging, no wrinkles, and no problematic shifting of the ties when I lift my arms.

Lots of you have written to me asking for advice on swimwear in XS or 32/34 AA/A, and I’ve had relatively few recommendations for the size AAs among you. Maybe it’s because they’re Australian, I don’t know; but this company seems to have excellent sizing in petite bikini tops for small busts. I ordered a size 2, but having tried it on I think I could even have gotten away with a size 4.

It has the usual removable pads, which aren’t too thick so I like to leave them in to keep the headlights under cover. It’s a sliding top, so you can adjust the ties to your bust width and fiddle with it until it fits. It stays in place nicely so far, though I’ve only tried in the pool… not sure what’s going to happen when I get in the ocean.

I’m totally excited right now because Mallory K., our petite contact at Aerie, has just shared some very helpful information on which of the newest Aerie bras are likely to fit best on us Itty Bitty Bra Committee members.

Both the Aerie Scarlet and Harper bras run small in the cups, I’ve found.

I prefer the Scarlet. She has the adjustable front cleavage, and the shape of the cup is actually a lot like the Emma – only not nearly as pointy! It gives a nice roundish shape.

Model featured in the A-B cup section of Women's Health bra article.

I do not look like this.

Recently I discovered that one of the first web pages returned in a search for “32B” was an article from Women’s Health Magazine called The Best Bras for Your Size. The piece claims to offer information on the best-fitting bras for women across the spectrum, from size AA to DD+.

I have no doubt that author Kara Wahlgren means well, but her advice has obvious limitations: she mentions only one style that comes in cup sizes above G (the beautiful Arabella plunge bra by Freya). The vast majority of the bras Wahlgren recommends won’t fit anyone larger than a DD cup. Since the article fails to meet the needs of hard-to-fit women on the curvy end of the spectrum, I was skeptical about how useful Wahlgren’s suggestions would be for those of us seeking petite lingerie and/or small cup sizes.

Hi everyone! I know I’m usually against us adults having to shop for bras made for girls or juniors. But, sometimes I need to make an exception. I’m sure you’ll understand once you see this pretty new design out from CK, apparently in a new line for girls and petites. Check it out here:

Calvin Klein Girl Mixalot Bra

Calvin Klein Demi Petite Push-Up Bras

Since it is available only in full cup sizes but with a different title than what was previously Calvin Klein Petites, I will assume this will not be the same bra as was previously sold under Calvin Klein Petites or as Calvin Klein Girl.

I will confirm this in a follow-up comment if and when I hear back from a rep for Calvin Klein.

If these are sized like Calvin Klein Girl, a 34A will fit some 32As. Here is the size AA guide:

34A fits 34AA, 34A, 36AAA.

32A fits 34AA, 32AA, 34AAA or 32AAA.

36A fits 36AAA, 36AA or 34AA.

Dolce & Gabbana Petite Bra

Amber thinks it looks black; I think it looks purple. It's dark brown.

I’m excited to introduce Amber M., our guest author this month. She discovered this Dolce & Gabbana bra with no help whatsoever from me, and she’s been kind enough to review it so that all of you looking for bras on the small side of an AA cup can check out this brand.

Amber:

I have never in my life had an easy time finding clothes that fit properly. I’m built…I don’t really want to say “weird,” because I like how I’m built, it’s just that clothing stores don’t seem to like how I’m built. I’m too tall and gangly, too short in the torso, too long in the arm, and so on. Mostly, through a lot of trial and error, I’ve been able to negotiate truces with several stores that seem to carry at least a few things that fit me well despite my proportional oddities, but not a single truce has been made when it comes to covering my practically non-existent bust.

Which brings me to the crux of the matter. I am not really a petite woman, but my breasts certainly are. I measure at a perfectly comfortable 34 band size, but the “AA” part of my measurement often leads me astray as I’m not actually quite that big. I’ve tried a lot of cup sizes: 34AA, 34A, 32A, 32AA. Some of these work…mostly. But far more often than not, they are not-quite-right: they gap, they slide up, they hang open, they don’t fit. So when I find a bra that fits in the cups and fits perfectly…well, I don’t even know how to react because really, it’s never happened before. Until now.

Wacoal 75830 push-up bra, black.

Wacoal 75830: yay or no way?

I’m always excited when Wacoal introduces a new bra to their excellent Petites line. It was pretty much the highlight of my week when I discovered I could wear a 32B in these!

However, their latest mini boulder-holder looks quite different from the other bras in the petite collection. I haven’t ordered one yet because I’m not sure what’s going on with this thing.

Like most of the Wacoal petite bras, it’s a push-up. The cups resemble Mickey Mouse ears, and that center gore looks like it would sit right on top of my jutting breastbone.

I’d end up with a big old blue-violet bruise in the middle of my chest by the end of the day… not so pretty.

"Fleur" bikini by Panache

Here are a few great links to visit for the latest in lingerie: news, deals and more.

Starting tomorrow (April 19), Figleaves is offering free shipping on all orders. Enter code: SHIPPING at checkout. This promotion lasts through April 23.

Figleaves is one of my favorite places to shop for bras online. They carry lots of brands you can’t find in stores, and the sizes start at 28AA. Check out the Double Boost gel bra by After Eden — available sizes include 30 – 36 AA, A and B. This is a very pretty, well-made push-up bra with smooth cups. I love the fact that it looks natural and doesn’t show through my clothes, even while providing a substantial boost in size (in the 32A, I look like a full 32B).

Stephanie BallardSmall-breasted sisters, there is someone you really must meet. Her name is Stephanie Ballard, and she’s the CEO of a brand new company called Bella Petite Lingerie.

Stephanie (photo at left), a size 32A herself, shares our frustration with the lack of bras available in petite and small-cup sizes. She plans to remedy this with a selection of beautiful, stylish lingerie that fits well on women like us.

I had the opportunity to ask Stephanie a few questions about her new business, and I’m pleased to be able to share her answers with you here.

AS: When did you first realize that your bust size was unusual, and how did it make you feel?

Aerie Mia lace trim braThe lovely Mallory K. is with us once again to review the latest bra from American Eagle Aerie: the Mia, a convertible push-up style. Those of you who have been looking for a strapless bra with some padding should certainly give Mia a try. If you wear a size AA, you may need to order it from the company website, as many Aerie stores don’t carry anything under an A cup. Fortunately, the Mia is currently 40% off with free shipping! Have fun. And now, over to Mallory.

I am very excited to tell you a bit about Aerie’s new bra from firsthand experience.

The Mia is a multi-way push-up bra that mixes all the best elements of the Emma and Abigail. Mia features convertible straps that can go 8 different ways: classic, strapless, racer back, halter, v-front halter, v-front classic, 1 cross-strap, and 1 shoulder. Like the Emma, Mia also has removable air pads which give you a “Whoa” level of push (the second-heaviest level of padding that Aerie offers).

My previous favorite bra at Aerie – and the only one I used to be able to wear – was the Abigail. Then we launched the Mia a couple weeks ago. I didn’t think I was going to like it because of the air pads. But I tried it on so I would be able to give customers a good idea of how it fits. This bra fits snug. When I tried on the 32AA (the sister size to my ideal 30A), I actually got that dreaded double-bubble I constantly warn customers about! I don’t think I can accurately convey the ecstasy I felt. I haven’t spilled out of a cup my entire life!

Kira push-up bra by Lula Lu PetitesFor the month of April 2012, we have a beautiful new bra by Lula Lu Petites to give away to one lucky 32AA Bra reader. This bra is available in size AAA, AA and A cups only. Band sizes: 32, 34, and 36.

The Kira push-up style comes in dark purple (shown at left) and black. It has delicate lace trim and pretty embroidery details. The lace is smooth enough that it doesn’t look lumpy under clothing.

The cups have removable push-up pads, and it closes in back with two rows and three columns of hooks. Kira has double stretch spaghetti straps that adjust in back. The straps are fairly wide-set, but the twinned elastic style helps them stay put.

I wear a 32A in this style. It runs a bit wider across the front than Lula Lu’s petite racerback bra, which has a front clasp; in that bra, I find the 34AA fits well on me. It’s only a slight difference, and for the most part I have found that Lula Lu bras run true to size. Check out their bra fitting page to find your best fit.

The giveaway entry period will end on April 30. Here’s how to enter:

  1. Follow Lula Lu Petites on Facebook.
  2. Post on the 32aa Bra Facebook page to say you want to enter the contest.
  3. Email me via the contact page and let me know you have completed the above steps.
