I got a handful of emails after my last post about the latest bra from the Wacoal Petites collection. You know, the beautiful one that comes in ivory and purple? I’ve yet to try it, but I know several of the other styles in this line very well. They don’t all fit exactly the same, so I figured maybe it would be helpful to provide some information about each of the individual Wacoal Petite bras I’m familiar with.

All of these are current styles, available as of October 2010 in the Itty Bitty AA-List store. I’ll update this post in the future if any are discontinued, but hopefully I won’t need to (hear that, Wacoal? No more getting rid of our favorites, please).

Wacoal Embrace Lace Petite, sizes from 30 AA Delicate embroidered lace flowers at the center gore and sides make the Wacoal Petites 75891 a sexy, sophisticated choice for special occasions.

This is an underwire push-up bra with removable cotton pads. Sizing is about average for the collection, meaning it runs smaller in both the band and cups like most petite bras. I take a 32AA in this style.

The cups are molded with significant padding already built in, so if you prefer non-padded styles you will certainly want to take out the cotton push-up pads.

Wacoal 73562 Petite Contour BraThe latest from Wacoal’s collection of bras for petites is a demi plunge contour bra. The structure of this style is simple: it is not a push-up. The cups are lightly padded with a single layer of stretch foam.

This lovely Wacoal petite bra flatters small breasts (cup size AA – B) instead of hiding them beneath bulky mounds of padding. The molded contour cups feature a delicate sheer lace overlay with floral embroidery… so so pretty.

Stay cool during the final days of summer in my top recommendations for lightweight, breathable stretch comfort bras and bralettes. I personally select and comment on each product in the Itty Bitty AA-List store, so you can trust that these really are the best-fitting bras Amazon has to offer for petite small-busted women.

You’ll see some great prices here, especially on the excellent everyday Barely There Breathe bralette (pictured below) — an underwear essential for petite size AA and A-cup women. Normally $18, it is now on sale starting at $10.59.

Barely There Breathe Bralette, BlackIt’s like a sports bra, only it doesn’t flatten you out. The cups provide nice separation and definition (just say no to uni-boob), and the lining inside is just substantial enough to cover your nipples.

Panache Atlantis T-Shirt Gel Bra 5946The latest trend in petite lingerie: bras that make you look two sizes larger. Victoria’s Secret went so far as to advertise their Miraculous mega-padded monster on TV with the “Hello, Bombshell” campaign, which is enough to make even the most confident small-busted woman feel inadequate.

And UK brand Panache now offers the 5946 Atlantis Solutions Ultimate Gel bra, which also claims to boost the bust by two cups. The original Panache Atlantis liquid-filled 1044 t-shirt style makes size AA breasts look at least one cup size larger — but apparently that’s just not enough anymore.

Am I tempted by these magical feats of bust-enhancing fakery? Sure. It’s fun to experiment with different looks from time to time. There’s still a part of me that longs for a voluptuous, dramatic hourglass figure like Marilyn Monroe’s (although, unlike most current designer lingerie models, she also had hips and thighs).

But my radical feminist side is telling me to beware: the heavier the padding in my bras, the more I will have to struggle to love my body.

I’m pleased to report that two of my favorite brands that make bras in size AA have been venturing into more sophisticated style territory lately. They now come in a greater variety of on-trend colors, prints and materials.

The Aerie Ella Gel, a comfy push-up bra in very soft microfiber, has been looking rather runway-inspired in her most recent incarnations. I love the black-and-white prints in particular.

For those who prefer simple solids, Ella also comes in a collection of desaturated, understated colors that you don’t often see in bras made for teens.

OnGossamer bra: A-cup also fits AAI’ve heard from several adult women of average height and build that size AA bras are too tight across the front. The underwires are too narrow and close-set to fit an average figure properly.

This problem usually isn’t solved by going up a size in the band or cup, although it’s always worth a try if you’re in love with a particular style.

If you’re over 18 with an average figure, the reason you may have trouble finding a comfortable and proper fit in size AA is because these bras are usually designed to fit either petite women or teen girls.

Either way, the proportions are wrong for most women of average size and shape. It has to do with the shape, length and positioning of the wires.

Lucia in Peony/TangerineUpdate, Sunday 7/10: First three readers to email me at info@32aabra.com will get a second bra free with their LBC order!

Triple yay. Seriously, these are just beautiful… allow me to present this weekend’s luxurious and extra-classy small bra savings feature: the Little Bra Company’s lovely signature Lucia. My price per item is $30, with free shipping. Buying instructions are after the jump.

LBC Lucia Bra in Oyster/Aqua

Sizes 32A (also fits 32AA) and 34A (fits 34AA) are each available in a choice of two mouthwatering color combinations: Peony/Tangerine (at left) and the ethereal Oyster/Aqua (right). Total stock: 4 brand new bras.

Little Bra Company Sizing

There has been some concern among loyal 32aabra.com readers that LBC bras may run too tight in the band, and also that the cups may be set too close together for some of you small-busted beauties with average bone structure (i.e., not petite).

Scrawny and shoulder-less as I am, it’s a bit hard for me to say for sure how these bras will fit women of average height and build. What I can say is this: the band on the Lucia does not seem to run especially small by petite standards. The cups, however, fit quite small and I think they may actually be best for size AA breasts. I happen to love the fit of Lucia in size 32A, so if you’re built like me, definitely go for it.

Adhesive Stick-On Bra Cups size AA, A
Advantages of Braza Contour Petals Adhesive Nipple Covers:

  • Not too thick — perfect if you’re looking for just a little help filling out your bikini top, and they do cover the nips as well.
  • You can position these in different ways depending on the look you want.For more cleavage, position them farther apart; for a push-up effect, create a shelf by sticking the bottom edges slightly below your bust and then lift yourself up into the top halves (like a demi bra).

This model wears a 32A.The best way to find your best-fitting bra is simply to try on ten or twenty different bras in a wide range of brands, styles and sizes, until you find one that feels good and flatters your shape.

But in a department store, petite size AA/A women are usually out of luck. It’s hard enough for the woman with an “average figure” (34 B/C) to snag her perfect fit … even with all those endless drawers, displays and racks of bras available in her size!

If you’re small-busted, I really believe your best option is to measure your band and cup size, find their equivalents on a standardized fit chart, and then order a few of the most highly recommended bras in your size online.

In case you end up needing an alternative size in this or that brand (it happens to all of us at some point), make sure you know that the retailer accepts returns and/or exchanges…. like I do!

zee bra by Lynn SaussyHere it is, finally: my review of the Zee Bra, Lynn Saussy’s new product for small-busted women. Apologies to Lynn for the delay.

Review summary: highly recommended wire-free bra, especially for band sizes 34 and larger. If you are a petite AA, order one band size smaller than your usual.

I’ve rated the Zee Bra on a five-star scale in three key criteria: fit, comfort, and style. Read my full written review after the jump.

  • Fit:
    Rating = 3 out of 5 stars.
  • Comfort:
    Rating = 5 out of 5 stars.
  • Style:
    Rating = 4 out of 5 stars

I received this exciting new small-cup bra in a 32AA/A (all Zee Bras are designed to fit size AA through A cups). It pulls on over the head like a bralette… but that’s pretty much where the similarities end.

Unlike most bralettes, this product has removable pads, adjustable straps and a wide band (it comes down about an inch below the sternum on me). Above the band and just below the bustline, there is a seam that adds a bit of structure and helps keep the pads in place inside the bra cups.
